Product Details

VNX5300 Disk Processor Enclosure helps customers to keep pace with their growing businesses by expanding their system storage capacity. The VNX5300's intuitive design easily allows you to add new disks that can be used to expand existing storage pools or create new pools.
  • 15-bay 3.5" or 25-bay 2.5"
  • 3.5" & 2.5" SAS / Flash
  • RAID 0 / 1 / 3 / 5 / 6 / 10
  • Fibre Channel (FC), NFS, CIFS, MPFS, pNFS
  • 125 Max Disk Drives

VNX5300 Disk Processor Enclosure (DPE) is a high-performance unified storage system based on modular architecture that integrates hardware components for block, file, and object with concurrent support for native NAS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel, and FCoE protocols. The VNX5300 deliverers file (NAS) functionality via X-Blade data movers and block (iSCSI, FCoE, and FC) storage via dual storage processors leveraging full 6Gbps SAS disk drive topology. The VNX5300 allows you to even start with block or file functionality and easily upgrade to unified storage when needed.

DELL EMC VNX5300 Base Knowledge .
VNX5300 Block and File platform is made up of a Disk Processor Enclosure, a Standby Power supply, one or two Control Stations, and one or two Data Movers.

Form Factor: 7U or 8U
Chassis: 15 LFF / 25 SFF
Standby Power Supply: 1U (SPS)
Disk Array Enclosures (DAE):

  • 3U 3.5” x 15
    • V31-DAE-R-15
    • V31-DAE-N-15
  • 2U 2.5” x 25
    • V2-DAE-R-25-A
    • V2-DAE-N-25-A

Max Drives: 125 Drives
Drives Supported: Serial attached-SCSI (SAS), near-line SAS (NL-SAS), and Flash or Enterprise SSD.
I/O Supported:
There are several types of I/O modules supported in the Block and File VNX5300 platform. The SP supports four types of I/O modules and the Data Mover supports four I/O types.

Storage Processor I/O Supported:

  • Two-port 10-Gb/s optical or active Twinax 4 (w/iSCSI protocol)
  • Four-port 1-Gb/s 10/100/1000 copper iSCSI
  • Four-port 8-Gb/s optical Fibre Channel (running at 2, 4, or 8-Gb/s)
  • Two-port 10-Gb/s optical or active Twinax 2 Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)

Storage Processor (SP)
A CPU module with an Intel Xeon 4-core 1.66-GHz processor with three Double Data Rate Three (DDR3) synchronous dynamic RAM (SDRAM) slots supporting 4-GB SDRAM

Data Movers Enclosure (DME):
The system can support 1 or 2 Data Movers in its 2U enclosure. Each data mover has
One DME with up to two Data Movers. Each Data Mover has One CPU module consisting of one Intel Xeon 4-core 2.13-GHz processor and Six DDR3 synchronous dynamic RAM (SDRAM) slots supporting up to 6 GB per CPU module. The Data Mover has one management module, one four-port 8-Gb/s FC I/O module, and any combination of 3 or fewer I/O Modules.

  • Four-port 8 Gb/s optical (running at 2, 4, or 8 Gb/s); in slot 0

The maximum number of I/O modules for the VNX5300 is three per Data Mover and any combination of these I/O modules must be the same for each Data Mover.

  • Two-port 10-Gb/s optical or active Twinax 2 (w/iSCSI protocol)
  • Four-port 1-Gb/s copper iSCSI
  • Two-port 1-Gb/s copper plus two-port 1-Gb/s optical
  • Two-port 10-Gb/s optical or active Twinax 2 Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)

Control Station:
One or two Control Stations. Each Control Station consists of the following features:
Intel 2.0 GHz single-core Celeron processor with 800-MHz front side bus (FSB) and 512 KB cache with 2 GB of RAM and One 250 GB SATA hard drive. Four 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX/1000BASE-T network interface (RJ-45) connectors (located on the rear panel) and One DVD-ROM drive.

Standby Power Supply
One (1U) 1.2 Kilowatt standby power supply (SPS) with a second (optional) SPS available. These are half-width and sit side by side under the DPE.
When the power goes out in the DPE VNX5300, a fully charged SPS will allow write caching. Write caching prevents data loss during a power failure. If the SPS is not fully charged or is faulted in any way. The write caching will be disabled. If AC power fails, the SPS provides backup power until the SP has flushed its write cache data to the DAE disks. The SP then shuts off SPS power. If the cache flush has not been completed within 90 seconds

An additional SPS can be added for redundancy. When only one SPS is used, the AC power out connectors for the SPS supply AC power to both SP A and SP B.

After a full power outage, an SPS typically requires 45 minutes or a maximum of 75 minutes to charge. To charge the SPS after being off-line usually requires at least 2 hours.

Disk Array Enclosure (DAE)
Expansion of up to seven 3U, 15 (3.5-inch) DAEs (a maximum of 120 drives) or up to four 2U, 25 (2.5-inch) DAEs (a maximum of 125 drives)
